Abstract

Purpose : The Linear accelerator(Oncor ExpressionR, Siemens) installed in our hospital is equipped with megavoltage(MV) cone beam CT(MV CBCT; MVisionR) as a essential part of image guided radiation therapy (IGRT). We performed a systematic survey for characteristics of this device.
Materials and Methods : We investigated the imaging system and geometry, imaging acquisition, time required, image quality, 2D/3D match, QA of MV CBCT.
Results : MV CBCT made a direct reconstruced 3D image without multiple gantry rotations, couch movement and produced a good soft-tissue image quality to visualize the structures such as a prostate. The system demonstrates submillimeter geometical stability and required less than 110 second for image acquisition. The table shift calculated from the 3D match is typically available 3 minutes after the start of the MV CBCT acquisition. The QA procedure indicated that the mean and standard deviation of the differences between the table shift and the measured shift were 0.08 mm and 0.32 mm with a submillimeter precision. 3D match could give a better localization instruction than 2D if rotation is added to translation movement.
Conclusion : The results revealed in this study will provide the ground to apply IGRT using MV CBCT to clinics smoothly.
